Santa Claus 007

by Morgan Marinelli

Well, Agent, it’s that time of year again. The Holiday season is here. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: successfully complete a Secret Santa gift exchange. What is such an intriguing way of gift-giving, you might ask? It begins with a group of people, perhaps a class, maybe just a commons table. Each member of the group draws a name out of a bowl; this is the person you must buy a gift for. For the game to work, no one can tell whose name they received. After all, you are a Secret Santa.

So before you get a jump start on your own Secret Santa exchange, here are some tips to go by during the game:

1. Draw names early. It makes it pretty hard to make the most of Secret Santas if you decide to start the game one week before Christmas. Plus, when you start early, it makes it more suspenseful!
2. Make a cost limit. Usually around five or ten dollar limits are appropriate; it’s always fun to give and receive gifts, but not when it leaves you broke.
3. Put all the gifts into a pile, with the name of the receiver on it- NOT the giver. When everyone finds their gift, have them guess who their giver was.
4. Try not to pester people into doing Secret Santas; lack of interest will result in one unhappy receiver who actually wanted to participate.

Now go out and have your own gift exchange! Who doesn’t like giving and receiving presents? The most important rule for fun, however, is to keep your identity secret! Happy gifting!
